A summary of human rights abuses at National Cheng Kung University recently posted on a Taiwan teachers' web site.

30 July 2010

To Colleagues of National Cheng Kung University,

For colleagues and officials who need further information about human rights violations at National Cheng Kung University attached is a scan of a summary sent to a Taiwan teachers' association (7-20-99).
I hope and expect that wiser heads will finally prevail at our university to insure closure of this case based on international human rights principles, including the right to an apology; the right to remedy (institutional changes to prevent further abuses, especially on the part of committee members who routinely passed a dismissal that egregiously violated human rights); compensation for time, money (travel costs, court costs, etc.), and academic productivity lost during the eleven years fighting this case, four of which interrupted my career at NCKU; appropriate and commensurate penalties against officials involved in these abuses, whether from negligence or for whatever other reasons; and punitive damages against the university for officials who willfully defied laws and/or Ministry rulings by obstructing enforcement of those laws and/or rulings.

    Sincerely,
