Subject: Regarding ongoing abuses at National Cheng Kung
UniversityTo: Kao Chiang
Huei-chen Ko
President's Office
Office of Student Affairs
17 February 2004
Please advise me by later today what you plan to do about
1. the Ministry rulilng: the means enforcing the full legal benefits
of that ruling, including full compensation and apology.
2. the student accused of misconduct: this means discipline of the
student who wrote a secret spiteful letter against a professor.
Please understand, I intend to resolve the legal issues involved here
very soon and will continue to appeal to all public agencies inside and
outside of Taiwan, as well as to the media, until this is achieved. If I do
not receive an email by later today, showing commitment to resolving these
issues soon, I will take further action, recommending removal from office
and (hopefully) from the university, of all officials involved in official
misconduct. I will leave it to the public to decide what quality of
leadership it requires of public education officials.
I remind you once again, I am committed to insuring respect, dignity,
and human rights to all American professors at our university, whatever it
takes.
Sincerely,
Professor Richard de Canio
Department of Foreign Languages and Literature
